Community Tax+ LLC is a new tax firm in Saint Paul, MN founded by Melissa Xiong. After graduating from the University of Minnesota, Melissa worked at the Minnesota Department of Revenue for 5 years. During the first 3 years at the department she assisted taxpayers and businesses with tax questions to help them meet their tax filing obligations. During the last 2 years at the department she enjoyed managing and coordinating the 7 free tax sites that the department sponsored.

Melissa wanted to start her own private tax firm because she understands the value of a well-prepared return. However, with the strict guidelines of the free tax program that she coordinated, not every taxpayer can receive her help. As the only Asian Outreach Coordinator for the Individual Income Tax and Withholding Division at the Department of Revenue she had the opportunity to work very closely with the underserved communities. Many of these taxpayers have been scammed by unethical preparers and charged unreasonable fees for the preparation of very basic returns. There's also been taxpayers who were denied assistance by their preparers once audited by a taxing authority. She has seen small businesses try to handle their own business taxes without any knowledge of taxes because they cannot afford a full-time accountant.
